My baby is ONE today and as you can imagine, I’ve been so emotional these past few weeks leading up to today. This past year has taught me way more than I ever would’ve thought and we’ve had so many adventures already! It’s been a mix of time passing by quickly but also time standing still- it’s the weirdest thing to describe that you won’t understand until you experience it yourself! I wanted to give a month by month experience about how Hendrix has been throughout all these months and now YEAR but written as a letter from me to H. I blog to keep all of my thoughts and experiences as a visual diary that our kid(s) will read someday- a peak into what their parents were like during the younger days, the good and bad. I want them to know we are constantly trying our best to parent them the right the way and that we love them them like crazy.
My dearest Hendrix Lou, whose name means “powerful warrior”, which is exactly who you are: Your life has showed me what natural love is like. I have your love with your father which I choose daily but with you, everything comes naturally which I’ve never felt with anyone or anything else. Here we go babe:
ONE MONTH: Lots of sleeping and snuggles! These snuggles were my favorite as we were trying to get used to this new season in life. As ready as we felt to bring life into this world, nothing could’ve prepared for this first month except YOU.
TWO MONTHS: You began to coo uncontrollably and this is when I knew you would be such a talker! We also started taking you out more and more and would love it when you fell asleep wherever we went.
THREE MONTHS: this was the first major regression we hit with you and probably the first time I lost it- your dad went back to work around this time so I felt extra tense doing things alone with you. I remember sobbing on the ground after you wouldn’t stop crying and felt I wasn’t fit for this new role. Turns out, your silly mom had lots of garlic in her milk from the kabobs the night before and you were just extra gassy and needed to be burped more. (oops!)
FOUR MONTHS: Dad was officially on summer break and we were excited to spend more time with you together! We went to the beach almost everyday and your nap time was in your Moses basket on the sand while we went swimming! I also got to hear you laugh for the first time and it melted my heart.
FIVE MONTHS: YOUR FIRST TEETH. Not your first tooth, TEETH. You sprouted two at the same time and to make it worse, I was on a work trip in Mexico and your poor father had you ALL ALONE for 5 days. He is a champ. You also went on your first airplane ride and we SURVIVED!
SIX MONTHS: We officially sleep trained you this month and you did AMAZING! You have been sleeping 12 hour stretches without waking up since then, which makes us really happy ;)
SEVEN MONTHS: By this point, you had been sitting up alone, rolling over, crawling, and standing with assistance! Such a big boy! All of these happened overnight which is CRAZY. This month was your most physical developmental stage. You began experiencing intense separation anxiety and clung to mama + dada anytime anyone else wanted to hold you!
EIGHT MONTHS: Said your first words, “dada” and haven’t stopped since then! You also started understanding phrases and questions that we ask you and you respond to quickly.
NINE MONTHS: Enjoyed you more and more everyday as your personality kept coming through. The holiday time was really fun with you! You also kept pulling your tiny body up on everything which made nap time a little difficult at first.
TENTH MONTHS: You began eating REAL solids, like chowing down in-n-out hamburgers and fries! You sprouted EIGHT teeth at this point, strangers thought you were already one!
ELEVEN MONTHS: You have been moving nonstop and taking steps while holding on to our hands. You are known at this point for how much you can eat and how much you talk. So far, you love going to the beach, touching plants, hanging out with friends, and eating, of course.
TWELVE MONTHS: You are officially a toddler! You are trying so hard to take steps on your own but you are soooo cautious with each move you make. (I think you’ll be a processor like mama!) You love music so much and dance to anything you hear. You hyperventilate at the sight of a guitar and immediately try to play! We spend our days going out for walks, playing on the beach, and getting coffee with me. You are able to fully understand commands in English and Spanish and "patting your tummy" is your proudest one!
We took a video to capture our favorite moments spent with you- We want to teach you that life itself is such a precious and valuable thing and that we never want to take it for granted. All of the tears, stress, sleepless nights, fights, is ALL worth it because of who you are and what you’ve done for our marriage. You’ve brought us closer in ways we wouldn’t have imagined. We love your bright attitude, high energy, secure personality, and those DIMPLES. We love you, son.
